Flash forward to now, past all that emotion and adjusting to parenthood. Noah is four months old and his extended family live nine and a half thousand kilometres away. We thought we’d set up a Gmail or Facebook account for him so that his grannies and our friends could leave him messages that he would be able to read later on. God, imagine what the internet will be like sixteen years from now. If I had to guess I’d say a gmail account would last longer than a Facebook one, but where was Google sixteen years ago? Where was being online? I read a ridiculous article (in the Metro, I think – or similar ephemiral publication) about Google’s next move. One of the satirical predictions was Google-Afterlife and, while it was clearly a joke, it did make me think about our perception of Google and it’s infinite power!
